Easy DIY Halloween Decoration For Under $10

I caught the crafting bug early in life. My mom was a Girl Scout troop leader. She was in charge of crafts. Twice a month, there would be a group of eight-year-old girls around our dining room table.
The pile of crafting supplies we would soon get our hands on mesmerized us. There was glitter, glue, feathers, pipe cleaners, markers, construction paper and so much more. We were in crafting heaven!
Crafting; A Family Affair
One of our favorite times of year was Halloween. Mom always decorated the house to the hilt. My three older brothers helped mom with the scary stuff. They were in charge of the creepy decorations. Mom, my sister and I were in charge of the more tame decorations.
We made cute ghosts and skeletons to hang in the windows or to sit on the mantel, above the fireplace. I could not wait until I was a mom to recruit my kids into helping me decorate my own home!
Easy DIY Halloween Decoration
This year, Caitlin and I decided to make this cute and easy to make $10 DIY homemade Halloween decoration. I am always on the hunt for an affordable craft to share with you. We got the idea from a set of decorative wood blocks we have in our home. They spell out our last name.
We constantly get compliments on them. People cannot believe we didn’t spend big bucks on them! In fact, they cost less than $10 to make! Want a fun great to eat while you make your easy to make $10 DIY homemade Halloween decoration? You will love my Cute Spooky Halloween Eyeball Cupcakes!
Here is what you will need for your easy to make $10 DIY homemade Halloween decoration!
- 1 2 x 4 (we got this from our local hardware store. It was $2.00 and they cut it into 4″ and 5″ pieces)
- 5 pieces of 10 x 12 Halloween inspired scrapbook paper (these were on sale at the craft store for $0.39 each)
- 2 pieces of 10 x 12 black card stock (same price as the scrapbook paper)
- 3″ Alphabet stencil (this was $3.99 at the craft store and I had a 40% off coupon)
- 1 jar of black paint ($2.48 at Walmart)
- Glue gun
- Scissors
- Mod Podge
- Craft brushes
- Medium grade sandpaper or sanding block
Step One: Sand and paint your wooden blocks. We only had to do one coat. You may need to do more, depending on the paint you have. Allow to dry for at least one hour.
Step Two: Cut your Halloween inspired scrapbook paper to fit your wooden blocks. Attach to the blocks using the Mod Podge. Allow to dry for at least one hour. *Please note as you are sealing the blocks with the Mod Podge, you don’t need to seal them. If you think you need to seal yours, just use a clear sealant from the craft section of your local retailer or craft shop.
Step Three: Using your alphabet stencil, trace your letters on the black paper. Cut letters out and attach to your wooden blocks using Mod Podge. Allow to dry for at least one hour.
Now you are ready to decorate your home with your easy to make Easy DIY Halloween Decoration!
Do you decorate your home for Halloween? If so, what is your favorite decoration? Is it store bought or homemade?
