Please tell me I am not the only one who is called “The Anchor” of the family! Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to be a mommy. I wanted to have six kids; three boys and three girls. I wanted to stay home and raise them just like my mom did with my five brothers and sisters. I got lucky and found a great husband and I have three beautiful children. When I was pregnant with my second daughter, my husband asked if I wanted to stay home and raise the kids. It was like a dream come true! Actually, it WAS my dream come true!
I’m A Mom…Now What?!
OK, so being a mom was a bit harder than I thought it would be when I was six! At six, I thought I would have tea parties, pretend I was a school teacher, or maybe a chef, or even a beautician. Turns out, I am all of those things and more! I had no idea how many hats a mom actually wore. Another thing I did not anticipate was how much my family actually depends on me. I am as they say, their “Anchor!” I found out true that was when I went out of town on my first business trip. I went to San Francisco and I was gone for three days. Who knew my family could fall apart in just three days! I wish I had offered my husband some useful tips for dad when mom travels!
How To Set Dad Up For Success When Mom Travels
When I took that first trip to San Fran, I bet the kids and my husband called 100 times. No one knew how to do the laundry, my husband lost the paper with the WiFi password and the kids apparently starved. From then on, I vowed to make sure I set my husband up for success when I traveled. I have a “Dad’s Cheat Sheet” I hang on the fridge with all the info he needs. To make sure no one starves, I make several meals ahead of time and freeze them. I also head to Walmart and stock up on my husband’s favorite STOUFFER’S ® FIT KITCHEN™ meals.
