If you are a regular reader, you most likely know I am striving to live a healthier life. Among the changes I have made are eating on a sensible food plan, exercising, meditating and drinking more water. I am super excited to say I have lost 12 pounds since March and am still losing! I feel so much better too! I have more energy and am sleeping much better at night.
Summer Detox Waters Are Delicious, Refreshing and Healthy!
One of my favorite additions to my healthy lifestyle are my favorite summer detox water recipes. They are simple to create and have been said to be effective in flushing your body and helping your organs function better. For these recipes, I use regular tap water. I do have a filter on our tap to make the water taste better. I did this when I read an article on choosing the best water faucet filter. It was super helpful.
Watermelon Mint: This is so good! It combines the sweetness of the melon with the zing of the mint. This one is said to help with liver function and improve digestion.
Raspberry Lemon Mint: This is one of the kids favorite summer drinks. They prefer this over just about any other beverage I could offer them. This detox drink is known for its anti-aging, anti-inflammatory and fights free radicals.
Apple Strawberry Spice: Love the combination of sweet and spicy with this summer favorite. Look for the cinnamon to help with regulate your blood sugar and rev up your metabolism. The strawberries help with anti-aging and the apples are packed with B complex vitamins!
Lemon Orange Nectarine: What can I say about this yummy citrus detox water. This one is rich in vitamins and is a great way to start your morning.
When I think about the health benefits of these summer detox water recipes, I think of how we can cleanse the earth. I think about sustainability and the Earth’s environment. These are two things I try to keep in mind as I go about my daily routine. My family tries to do our part by keeping the lights off when we aren’t in the room, using energy efficient appliances, recycling vs reusing vs throwing out, etc. in hopes to diminish my own carbon footprint.
We Should All Be Using Reusable Straws
My kids go through so many straws in a month. Both love to drink from them and because they are just a few dollars, I never gave them much thought. But, what cost do they have to our planet? They are not biodegradable, so they are not helping with my carbon footprint. I was thrilled to learn about Straw Envy because they’re a company that keeps sustainability and health in mind. Straw Envy is the producer of reusable straws, made so that you no longer have to add onto the world’s landfills.
Their straws are FDA approved and BPA free, which means that the harmful BPA chemical will not be released in your drink, a risk that we all take when we use ordinary, disposable ones (especially in hot beverages). You could use them in my Cran Raspberry Mint Smoothie! Now, with Straw Envy you can enjoy one of my favorite detox water while staying health-conscious and environmentally friendly.
