“OMG Santa! I know him!” Who knows what movie this is from? In our house, this movie has taken the place of “It’s a Wonderful Life.” GASP!! I know. I know. My daughter and husband out number me, so I watch it. What I do appreciate about Elf is how excited he is about Christmas. He is my holiday soulmate! I love the parties, visiting with family, giving gifts, baking holiday treats and decorating the house.
To avoid last minute holiday craziness, I start buying and making my gifts at the end of the summer. I love to make as many holiday gifts as I can. Not only does it save me money, but in my opinion, it is more meaningful. I have recently begun using essential oils and learned the many different uses for them. My favorite line is Nature’s Truth® Essential Oils. I can make my favorite soaps and scrubs with them, use them in the shower or to give my hubby a massage. I also make my own DIY Upcycled Gift Containers too!
You can find Nature’s Truth Essential Oils at several of your favorite retailers. You can buy them at CVS, Walgreens, Target, Target.com, ShopRite, Meijer and more. They offer many wonderful scents including Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Frankincense, Cinnamon and Lemon Oil. At some stores, you can even buy a mini diffuser to make your home smell amazing! For my easy to make Homemade Essential Oil Soaps, I purchased the Frankincense and Good Nite oils, located in the vitamin aisle, at my local Walgreens. For my lime zest soap, I chose the Frankincense because it is a great way to start your day. With its uplifting, invigorating scent, I use the Frankincense in Homemade Essential Oil Soap in my morning shower. It has sweet citrus notes, which I love, with rich, warm balsamic undertones. The scent is spiritually elevating and mentally refreshing, making it the perfect way to start my day!
For my nighttime bath, I made the lemon zest soap with the Good Nite Nature’s Truth Essential Oil. I love the Good Nite Essential Oil because it is calming, comforting, and relaxing after a long day. It is the perfect choice to have in my end of the day soak in the tub!
When making my Homemade Essential Oil Soaps, there are a few precautions I take. When you are using the Nature’s Truth Essential Oils, you never want to apply the oils directly on your skin unless you have a base oil. I prefer to use their Almond Base Oil, which you can find at many of the retailers mentioned above.
The rule of thumb is to use 5-7 drops of your favorite essential oil to 10 mL (1/3 oz.) of your base oil. Also, you do not want to use the full strength essential oils on or around your children or pets or take them internally. However, you can safely use the essential oils in a Mini Diffuser around your kids and pets.
What you will need to make your Homemade Essential Oil Soap:
- 1 lb. Clear Glycerin Soap Block
- 1/8 cup Nature’s Truth Almond Base Oil
- 10-12 drops Nature’s Truth Essential Oil ( I did two batches; one with Frankincense and one with Good Nite.
- Zest of 1-2 lemons and limes
- Yellow and green food coloring (if desired)
- Soap Mold
- Spray bottle of rubbing alcohol
- Microwave safe glass bowl
Step One: Cut your soap block into small cubes. Place into your bowl. Heat in microwave at 50% power for 40 seconds. Stir and repeat until melted completely and smooth.
Step Two: Add 1/8 cup of the goat’s milk into mixture. Stir until mixed in completely.
Step Three: Add your Almond Base Oil into mixture. Stir until mixed in completely.
Step Four: Add your Nature’s Truth Essential Oil into mixture. Stir until mixed in completely.
Step Five: Add your food coloring. Start with one drop and mix thoroughly. Continue to add one drop and stir until desired color is achieved.
Step Six: Add in your lemon zest until completely blended into your mixture.
Step Seven: Pour your mixture evenly into your soap molds. I chose a classic bar mold. I was able to make 4 medium bars of soap. Spray your rubbing alcohol onto the molds. This will pop any air bubbles, so you get a nice smooth bar. Allow to cool completely and harden. You can do this at room temperature or place in the fridge for 30-45 minutes. Gently pop your soap out of the molds.
Now you are ready to use your homemade essential oils soaps or give as a gift!
