It is therapeutic and relaxing for me. Also, there is a sense of accomplishment to grow something. I love to cook with fresh herbs from my indoor garden we have planted in our DIY Star Wars Fabric Covered Garden Pots.
Non-Organic or Organic Soil? That is the Question!
I feel choosing the soil I use for my gardening projects is important. I want a soil that nourishes what I plant as well as my family. There are so many soils out there, it can be confusing to make the right choice. I have been gardening with organic soil and plant foods for years. Non-organic soil may contain contaminates and products like Styrofoam. They also lack the nutrients and minerals organic soil has.
Bad Food Gone Good
There is also a big difference in which organic soils to use. I use the natural and organic soils, plant foods and liquid fertilizers from EcoScraps®. They have developed a unique process when making their products. They divert food waste from landfills to create organic, sustainable soils and plant foods. Their motto is Bad Food Gone Good. Don’t you love that?!
Grow Gardens Not Landfills
It all started with two college students, Daniel and Craig, and an all you can eat buffet. They saw how much food was being wasted. From there, they created EcoScraps®. The pair recycles food scraps into organic and sustainable lawn and garden products. They strive to #GrowGardensNotLandfills!
EcoScraps recycles anything from meats to bakery items to fruits and vegetables. EcoScraps has partnered with Feed America. They recycle consumable food with local food banks and schools. They also recycle food into animal feed or energy through anaerobic digestion. Here is a great video to introduce you to EcoScraps:
Gardening Is A Family Affair!
My favorite EcoScraps products are the Natural and Organic Tomato, Herb & Vegetable Plant Food and All Purpose Plant Food. Be sure to check with Walmart to see which EcoScraps products they carry. The kids and I decided to make some fun DIY Star Wars Fabric Covered Garden Pots. Once the pots were ready, we then were going to plant an indoor herb garden. Two of our favorite things to do!
Making Your DIY Star Wars Fabric Covered Garden Pots
Before plating your indoor herb garden, you need to make your DIY Star Wars Fabric Covered Garden Pots. We found our Star Wars fat quarters in the fabric department at Walmart. The clay pots are in the Garden area of Walmart. The Mod Podge and brush were found in the craft department. The directions can be found in my post, Fabric Covered Flower Pots.
Planting An Indoor Herb Garden
Planting an indoor herb garden is easy. We buy potted herbs from the Walmart garden center. These herbs are have already been started for you. There were several to chose from. We settled on chocolate mint and purple basil for the DIY Star Wars Fabric Covered Garden Pots. We also grabbed some catnip, sweet mint, lemon and pineapple sage for another project.
To replant your DIY Star Wars Fabric Covered Garden Pots is easy to do. My herbs were a bit dry, so I put them in some water overnight. Next, I cut them out of their recycled covering. Gently shake the excess soil.
Mix your EcoScraps All Purpose Plant Food with your soil. Add about 1/4 cup of the mixture to the bottom of your Star Wars Fabric Covered Garden Pot. Add your herb plant and fill in with more of the soil mixture.
Do you garden? If so, which of the Ecoscraps products from Walmart would you use and for what gardening project?
